CHUCKY'S FIGHT TO BRING ALCOHOL/DRUG AWARENESS

Chucky Rosa, who works to support those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction and their families, will visit us on Oct. 20th and speak with students. The Seabrook, NH father created Chucky's Fight in 2009 to spread awareness and offer financial support for recovery. The non-profit group honors his two sons -- Vincent died at age 20 after overdosing on a fentanyl patch in 2003, and Domenic died of a heroin overdose in 2004.

Whittier students are invited to enter an essay contest whose winners will enjoy lunch with Mr. Rosa during his visit here. Details of the contest and an entry form may be found on the student intranet.

The deadline is: Oct. 10, 2:05 p.m. Essay length: 500-word maximum.

Here is the writing prompt: How have you or your community been affected by the increasing negative influences (i.e. drugs, alcohol, gang violence)? Reflecting on past choices/experiences… what advice would you give to your younger self?

Rosa is well-known in the community and was recognized by the Boston Celtics and Massachusetts State Lottery as part of their “Heroes Among Us” program in May. Questions about his visit or the essay contest may be directed to Ms. Grover, Mr. Beauregard, Ms. Teixeira and Mrs. Parsons.
