Mardi Gras Walk-a-thon raises $559 for program to benefit Emmaus House

Twenty-seven students collected pledges and stepped out for a Mardi Gras Mile Walk-A-Thon after school on Feb. 13th to benefit Emmaus House, a homeless shelter in Haverhill.

Students donned feathered masks and collected beads at three checkpoints along the way as they wound their way around the Whittier campus. Everyone enjoyed hot chocolate at the end, perfect for February weather in the Northeast, which is a bit chillier than New Orleans.

The $559 raised was donated to the Skills/USA Career Pathways Showcase Team from Whittier's Early Education Program which students will use to create a dual language library at Emmaus House. The walk-a-thon was sponsored by the school's Key Club and Interact Club.
