On Thursday, August 8, Whittier Tech celebrated the graduation of 79 participants from the Career Technical Initiative (CTI) program. This program, funded by a nearly $800K grant from the state of Massachusetts, provided hands-on experience in Welding, Advanced Manufacturing, Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, Culinary Arts, Marine Technology, Construction Laborer, and Auto Body. Graduates leave Whittier Tech equipped not only with new skills but also with free equipment and the confidence to pursue their careers. Many leave the program already employed. Mara, a graduate of the Culinary Arts CTI program, shared her experience: "Learning about cooking has been incredible, but it's more than just that. This program has shown me that I have the potential to reach my dreams. I've learned about leadership and discovered how good it feels to do what you love. I surprised myself with how much I've grown." Mara leaves Whittier Tech with a job at Tatte Bakery.
Superintendent Maureen Lynch expressed her gratitude for the state's support and commitment to expanding the trade workforce. "We are deeply thankful for the grant that made this program possible. At Whittier Tech, we are dedicated to providing high-quality training to meet the needs of our community. Our graduates are stepping into roles as electricians, carpenters, welders, and more at a time when there is a critical shortage of skilled workers. We are proud to contribute to the workforce and to the future of our graduates."
The CTI program at Whittier Tech not only addressed the urgent need for skilled workers but also provided participants with valuable opportunities to improve their lives and careers. Whittier Tech remains committed to supporting the development of a skilled workforce and serving the communities it partners with.
