Whittier Regional Technical High School (Whittier Tech) has been awarded a $1,000,000 Skills Capital Lab Modernization Grant to enhance its Metal Fabrication & Joining program. This funding, part of a larger initiative by the Healey-Driscoll Administration, will allow Whittier Tech to purchase cutting-edge equipment and expand its career technical education offerings, ensuring students are well-prepared for high-demand industries.

The Skills Capital Lab Modernization Grants, announced during STEM Week, support Massachusetts schools in updating career technical education programs to meet industry needs in fields such as advanced manufacturing, construction, health care, and IT. These grants are part of the Workforce Skills Cabinet’s effort to align education with workforce development and boost economic growth across the state.

“Massachusetts is a leader in innovation, and to maintain our competitive edge, we must continue investing in the next generation of workers, particularly in STEM-related fields,” said Governor Maura Healey. “This funding is equipping our career and technical education programs and training centers with the latest technology, giving our students and workers the tools they need to succeed in high-demand industries and making our state the best place to go to school, raise a family, and work.”

Whittier Tech’s Metal Fabrication & Joining program plays a crucial role in preparing students for careers in advanced manufacturing and skilled trades. The $1 million grant will be used to upgrade equipment, providing students with access to state-of-the-art technology and hands-on learning experiences that directly align with workforce needs.

“We are thrilled to receive this grant, which will significantly enhance our Metal Fabrication & Joining program,” said Maureen Lynch, Superintendent of Whittier Tech. “This investment allows us to provide our students with the latest tools and equipment, giving them a real advantage in the job market."
