math students of term 1

The Whittier Tech Math Department is pleased to share the Term 1 Students of the Term! Each student received a certificate “for exemplary effort and achievement in the area of Mathematics for Term 1 of the 2024-2025 school year.” The certificates were signed by the student’s Math teacher and the Math Cluster Chair, Ms. McDonald. The goal of the Math Department is to showcase students’ outstanding math growth and achievement on a quarterly basis by selecting one student from every grade, once a term, to be recognized in their mathematics classroom.

Grade 9 students Kaelyn Broderick, from Amesbury, and Iliana Alvarado Guadalupe, from Haverhill, were nominated by math instructor Mr. Kelly.

It has been a pleasure having Iliana and Kaelyn in one of my Algebra 1/Geometry classes this year.  I am nominating them together as Co-Students of the Term because they are an amazing pair of students, whose teamwork, behavior, and work ethic could serve as a model for all students in the school.  Iliana and Kaelyn were randomly seated next to each other to begin the year, but they have turned into a wonderful partnership.  They always come to class prepared, ask great questions about the lesson, and work diligently to complete their work on time.  If either of them is ever absent, they are able to catch the other person up quickly.  They do a great job of reviewing work together, and checking in with each other to make sure that they both understand how to complete problems.  They are always very supportive of each other, and are positive with each other.  If every pair of students in my class could work together the way that they do, it would be a dream come true.

Grade 10 student Skylar Cyr, from Haverhill, was nominated by math instructor Mr. Tashjian.

I am nominating Skylar Cyr for math student of the term. Skylar is an extremely diligent student that works from bell to bell. When she is finished working on the assigned classwork, I will notice Skylar looking over her notes to reinforce what she has just learned. Due to her excellent study habits, Skylar recently got an A + on her Quarter 1 Test. Skylar is a student that takes her academics very seriously and is an excellent role model for other students in the school. Thank you for your hard work! Congratulations Skylar!

Grade 11 student Marielys Perez Rosario, from Haverhill, was nominated by math instructor Mrs. Kastrinelis.

I am nominating Marielys for student of the month because in addition to exceeding expectations and maintaining an A+ average in Honors Algebra 3, Marielys models for other students (without realizing it) asking reaching questions and seeking deeper understanding of the work we are doing. In addition Marielys energizes the classroom with her smile and positive approach to classwork. Marielys works well with other students and is always willing to share her thoughts and/or explain to a fellow student how she got to an answer.

She is a pleasure to have in class and will certainly go far once she graduates from high school.

Grade 12 student Dino Stamoulis, from Haverhill, was nominated by math instructor Mr. Valaskatgis.

We are proud to announce Dino as our Student of the Month in Math! Dino consistently demonstrates a remarkable enthusiasm for banking and entrepreneurship. His insightful contributions to classroom discussions not only deepen his own understanding but also inspire his classmates to engage more critically with the material. Dino’s curiosity and passion for learning shine through. His ability to connect mathematical concepts to real-world scenarios makes him a standout student and a valued member of our classroom community. Congratulations, Dino!
