The Whittier Tech English Department is pleased to share the Term 2 Students of the Term for Choice Reading for the 2024-2025 school year! Each student received a certificate for their outstanding dedication to choice reading. The certificates were signed by the student’s English teacher. The goal of the English Department is to encourage and promote literacy, critical thinking, student confidence, and motivation in reading, writing, speaking, and listening through choice reading.
Grade 9 student, Juliette Vasilenko, from Georgetown, was nominated by English instructor Ms. Bragg.
"Juliette loves reading because it allows her to transport herself into another world and forget about the issues of the real world, if just for a little while. Reading also provides her an opportunity to learn about people, lifestyles, and experiences that she herself may not have experienced."
Grade 10 student, Emily McCadden, from Haverhill, was nominated by English instructor Mr. Ouellette.
"Emily is always engaged in choice reading and eager to dive into a good book! Her engagement and enjoyment of reading is quite evident each class, and she is a quiet student who deserves some recognition!"
Grade 11 student, Hilde Vienneau, from Groveland, was nominated by English instructor Mrs. St.Pierre.
"I am happy to nominate Hilde Vienneau, a grade 11 student, who has been an avid reader all year. Hilde is one of those incredible people who brings joy to the classroom with their positive attitude. I am so grateful to witness her love of reading and hope that with each world she journeys into as she reads, she experiences the joy that she brings to all of us. Thank you, Hilde, for being YOU!"
Grade 12 student, Alyssa Cecilio, from Haverhill, was nominated by English instructor Ms. Devenney.
"Alyssa Cecilio, a 12th grade student in Miss Devenney's CP1 English class, has shown exceptional commitment to reading this quarter. Her enthusiasm for literature and diverse reading interests make her an outstanding candidate for this award. Alyssa's love for books extends across a wide range of genres, showcasing her versatility as a reader.
