Term 3 CR Students of the Term

The Whittier Tech English Department is pleased to share the Term 3 Students of the Term for Choice Reading for the 2024-2025 school year! Each student received a certificate for their outstanding dedication to choice reading. The certificates were signed by the student’s English teacher. The goal of the English Department is to encourage and promote literacy, critical thinking, student confidence, and motivation in reading, writing, speaking, and listening through choice reading.

Grade 9 student, Connor Smith, from Georgetown, was nominated by English instructor Dr. Marino.

He's a voracious reader at school and at home. Connor enjoys reading series from start to finish, and he always wants to talk about the characters and exciting plot points in each book. If we could read for the entire 84 minutes of class, Connor would be happy!

Grade 10 student, Connor Antico from Haverhill, was nominated by English instructor Mr. Malynn.

Connor consistently reads outside of class choice reading time. He completes multiple choice books a term and has always puts in 100% effort and pride in his reflections, book reviews, and book talks. Connor is a thoughtful and engaged reader who enjoys chatting me up about his current book.

Grade 11 student, Ryan Savage, from Newburyport, was nominated by English instructor Mr. Cunningham.

Ryan Savage has been avidly reading works of classic literature all year. As soon as he completes one book, he is eager to move on to the next. Recently he has completed Brave New World, Catcher in the Rye, and 1984. Ryan is always eager to discuss his most recent reads with anyone willing to talk, and he has remarkably insightful views on every book he dives into. He is a voracious reader who thrives on making reading a social event. If you see Ryan in the hallways or in the cafeteria, be sure to ask him what he's reading. I guarantee he will have something interesting to share.

Grade 12 student, Ash Keith, from Haverhill, was nominated by English instructor Mr. Cunningham.

Ash loves to read, and often has a book open as soon as she arrives in my classroom. Whenever she has a free moment to read, she is engaged in a book. She has finished several books this year and is always willing to share her thoughts on what she is currently reading. Even in her technical area, Metal Fabrication, I have seen her with a book. I'm sure if she could find a way to safely weld and read at the same time she would do so.
