🚨🏆 Whittier Tech Wins Best In Show! 🏆🚨 Our students took home Best In Show at the MassCTE Conference this past weekend with their incredible bench-to-table combo, "A Change in Plans"—and they were SO close to winning Most Creative too! 👏👏 What started as a tough challenge—combining a bench and picnic table into one functional design—turned into an award-winning project that tested and expanded students' skills in welding, blueprint reading, geometry, and problem-solving. 💬 "This was one of the coolest projects I got to work on in shop, and I am so proud of my teammates and the hard work we put into the bench." – Adrian Angeloni, Grade 11 💬 "It was exciting to come to shop and look forward to something every day. Whittier Tech teachers Teri Bragg and Susannah DiMauro joined their colleague Chris Cunningham of the Newburyport Human Rights Commission at the annual Community Iftar on Thursday, March 27, at Newburyport High School. Iftar is the tradition of breaking fast during Ramadan, a sacred time observed by many of our students and families. Ramadan will conclude with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr on Sunday, March 30. This month, Ms. Desberg's and Mrs. Bucco's English classes have been engaging in March Madness Poetry to start each class period. Students are introduced to two poems each day and vote for their favorite (based on general guidelines), moving through a bracket-style competition. Today, the classes took the experience a step further by pairing the daily poems with a 10-minute guided meditation from the Calm app, focusing on the theme of poetry and mindfulness. The meditation encouraged students to reflect on the emotional impact of the poems and how poetry can serve as a tool for self-awareness and relaxation. The March Madness Poetry challenge has been a fun way to connect to poetry. The addition of mindfulness reinforced how poetry can be both intellectually and emotionally enriching.
