Students explore careers at Accounting Summer Camp

Juniors Gigi Torres and Caelyn Waite spent time this summer finding out what it means to be an accountant by attending the Accounting Career Awareness Program (ACAP), a free specialized summer camp hosted by the Massachusetts Society of CPAs (MSCPA), National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), Fisher College and Suffolk University. The programs were held from July 29 to August 2 at Fisher College and from August 5 to August 9 at Suffolk University.

Gigi and Caelyn, who both study Marketing and Business Technology, spent the week learning about accounting careers and other business-related professions. They participated in an etiquette lunch, mock interview sessions, panel discussions and firm visits at Deloitte and RSM US LLP, who sponsored the event. Students also toured the Museum of Science and Fenway Park, where they heard a presentation from Timothy Zue, CFO of the Boston Red Sox. They also competed in a week-long case study with a focus on entrepreneurship.

“Our organization has a long history of supporting students pursuing accounting degrees, and our ACAP program allows students to get fully immersed in all that a career in accounting has to offer,” said Amy Pitter, president and CEO of the MSCPA. “
