Whittier's Drama Club's Second Annual Coffeehouse

Earlier this week, WT Drama Club put on its second annual Coffeehouse event. This has quickly become a new tradition at Whittier. Drama Club Advisors Sarah Anderson and Elaine Bucher organized the event.

Students auditioned a few weeks ago with their chosen talent. Some sang, some danced, some played instruments, and some even read original poetry.

The following students performed during this week’s Coffee House:

  • Raychel Pennisi (grade 11) performed “Fade into You” by Mazzy Star

  • Thaly Espinal (grade 11) performed “This Charming Man” by The Smiths

  • Holly Robinson (grade 12) performed “Tears on my Guitar” by Taylor Swift

  • Kai Elliot (grade 12) performed “Burn” from Hamilton

  • Jana Viscioso (grade 11) performed two original poems, “Home” and “Whenever our Shadows Dance”

  • Katie Rocco (grade 11) and Hailey Cotter (grade 11) danced a routine to “Mafia in the Morning” by ITZY

  • Glennisbel Estrella (grade 9) and Olivia Monaco (grade 9) performed “Still Into You” by Paramore

  • Sarriyah Bazile (grade 9) performed “Heather” by Connor Gray and “I Don’t Know My Name” by Grace Vanderwaal

  • Lila Combs (grade 9) performed “Rises the Moon” by Liana Flores

  • Morgan Kelly (grade 9) performed “Dead Mom” from the musical Beetlejuice

  • Gino Figliola (grade 11) (drums) and Rocco Figliola (grade 9) (guitar) performed an original “Electric Sky,” “Heartbreaker” by Led Zeppelin, and finally, “Messin’ with the Kid” by Earl Hooker

The night ended with Gino and Rocco being joined onstage by two Whittier Tech Alumni: John Lacroix (Class of 2020) and Jackson Bonfiglioli (Class of 2022) to perform “Chameleon” by Herbie Hancock.

Advisors Sarah Anderson and Elaine Bucher had nothing but praise for the event. "This was our second annual Coffee House here at Whittier, and we were absolutely blown away by the talent on that stage. This year, we had all sorts of acts: musicians, poets, dancers, and singers. Everyone did a fabulous job, and we were very impressed. Every year this event gets better and better."

The Coffee House performers and advisors would like to thank Mr. Porcelli, Superintendent Lynch, and Principal Laganas.
