Whittier Tech Celebrates Students Who Earned Exceeds on MCAS

Earlier this week, Whittier Tech celebrated 30 students who scored Exceeds on the 2022 MCAS exam for either English or Math. Three of these students scored Exceeds in both English and Math.

The celebration was held in the Poet’s Inn. Students were presented with a Certificate of Achievement, signed by Superintendent Maureen Lynch, Principal Chris Laganas, and their Sophomore year English and/or Math teacher. Students from Culinary along with their instructors prepared all desserts for the celebration.

The idea for the celebration originated from a meeting consisting of the Grade 10 English team, Coordinator of Curriculum and Staff Development Dr. Kelly Fay, and Coordinator of Data and Assessment Katie Jensen. This idea was brought to the Administrative Team and Superintendent Lynch and Principal Laganas thought this was a fantastic idea.  Invitations were created for these students, which their Sophomore year English and/or Math Teacher hand-delivered to them.

Ms. Jensen said, “I hope this becomes an annual tradition and that more and more students are congratulated and celebrated.  Next year, we will be able to add in the students that achieved Exceeds on the Biology MCAS during their Freshman year.”
