Whittier Tech Math Department Announces Students of the Term for Term 3

The Whittier Tech Math Department is pleased to share the Term 3 Students of the Term! Each student received a certificate “for exemplary effort and achievement in the area of Mathematics for Term 3 of the 2022-2023 school year.” The certificates were signed by the student’s Math teacher and the Math Cluster Chair, Ms. McDonald. The goal of the Math Department is to showcase students’ outstanding math growth and achievement on a quarterly basis by selecting one student from every grade, once a term, to be recognized in their mathematics classroom.

Freshman Wesley McTighe, from Haverhill, was nominated by Math teachers Mr. Donahue Sr. and Mr. Cherouvis

  • “Wesley is an energetic young man with a contagious personality. Wesley recently received the Freshman Basketball 'Coaches Award" for not only being the most improved, and most energetic but also being a real team player. As the year has progressed, Mr. Cherouvis and I have experienced this same work ethic coupled with an exuberant personality. We always know when Wesley figures out a math problem and is quick to share how to solve the problem with his classmates. We are very pleased to nominate Wesley McTighe as the Q3 freshman math student.”

Freshman Natalia Solano, from Haverhill, was nominated by Math teacher Mr. Kelly.

  • “Natalia deserves to win Student of the Term because of her positive attitude, and approach to learning. Natalia is fully engaged with new lessons, actively participates daily, and asks great clarifying questions. She is eager to master new material, perseveres through challenges, and is not afraid to make mistakes. Further, she works well as a supportive member of a collaborative team. February and March can be a tough stretch of the year to get through, but Natalia has remained a model student. Keep up the great work!”

Sophomore Jaliyah Chase-Barton, from Haverhill, was nominated by Math Teacher Ms. Reigert.

  • “Jaliyah has excelled in math class all year! She is always attentive and respectful during lessons and responsive to questions during class instruction. Her classwork is thorough, organized, and timely. She is able to productively discuss problems with her peers and help out classmates whenever possible. Jaliyah demonstrates excellent self-motivation and accountability by always ensuring that she understands the topic at hand. If she is ever confused, she asks productive clarifying questions in order to ensure her understanding. She has had a great year and I look forward to seeing her success in future math courses!”

Junior Madeleine Katzen, from Georgetown, was nominated by Math Teacher Mr. Hayes.

  • “Maddie is an exemplary student! She has an incredible work ethic and extremely high standards of achievement. Although her grade in the third term was slightly lower than in previous terms (98% vs 99% for Q1 and 100% for Q2), she is still the most consistently high-achieving student in Honors Pre-Calculus. She is also gracious to all of her teachers and kind to her fellow students. She even completed an assignment from a hospital bed when she experienced an unexpected health emergency.”

Senior Natalie Vienneau, from Groveland, was nominated by Math Teacher Mr. Madden.

  • “Natalie is an extremely hardworking and thoughtful student. She is a role model for all students at Whittier Tech in how she carries herself and treats those around her. In math, she is inquisitive and strives to deepen her understanding of complex topics. Natalie's strong work ethic leads to success in school, extracurricular activities, and the community.”
