Whittier Tech Hosts AFL-CIO Local Union Event for Seniors in the Construction Trades, Advanced Manufacturing, and Auto Tech Programs

On May 11, 2023, Whittier Tech hosted an AFL-CIO Local Union Event, which seniors from the construction trades, advanced manufacturing, and auto tech program attended. The event, organized by Vocational Coordinator Paul Moskevitz, collaborated with Sheet Metal Workers Local 17, Pipefitters Local 537, Painters and Allied Trades District Council #35, Carpenters Local 339, Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Local 3, Ironworkers Local 7, IBEW Local 103, Plumbers and Gasfitters Local 12, Massachusetts AFL-CIO, and United Way of Mass Bay and Merrimack Valley. The event aimed to inspire and support the next generation of skilled workers.

One of the highlights of the event was when Francisco Brea, a proud AFL-CIO spokesperson, shared his personal journey of immigrating to this country and becoming a citizen. Brea emphasized the invaluable role that unions play in providing opportunities for individuals to support their families and achieve success. His powerful story resonated with the attending students, inspiring them to consider the vast possibilities within these industries.

The collaboration between Sheet Metal Workers Local 17, Pipefitters Local 537, Painters and Allied Trades District Council #35, Carpenters Local 339, Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Local 3, Ironworkers Local 7, IBEW Local 103, Plumbers and Gasfitters Local 12, Massachusetts AFL-CIO, and United Way of Mass Bay and Merrimack Valley exemplifies the commitment to building a strong workforce for the future.
