Whittier Tech Early College Delegation Attends Student Summit

Whittier Tech Early College Support Teachers Lindsey Crovetti and Chris Cunningham, along with WT Guidance Counselor Rachael Rossi, accompanied a group of ten high school seniors to the Massachusetts Early College "Take-Off Student Summit" held at Worcester State College on January 12, 2024.

The summit aimed to provide students with a deeper understanding of the purpose of the Early College program in the state of Massachusetts and equip them with the necessary tools to navigate their educational journey beyond high school. The event featured workshops and discussions tailored to the needs of high school seniors, ensuring they were well-prepared for their next steps after graduation.

Among the attendees were ten Whittier Tech seniors: Fernando Amaya, Henrique Brostel, Lia Bunyar, Kaden Garcia, Madison Gosse, Sahra Hanif, Mia St. Hilaire, Madeleine Katzen, Mya Morales, and Madalyn Pulsifer. Annie Silliker, an Engineering student from Newburyport, shared her experience at the summit, highlighting the value of the workshops and personal growth strategies offered.

Annie Silliker expressed, "While the convention at Worcester State was definitely aimed towards students who have not yet applied to colleges, we were able to customize our schedule of workshops in a way that best suited our needs as seniors. One of the best workshops in particular that I found had the most useful and applicable information for me was one called 'How to Get Your Wheels Up.' This session provided tools to break self-imposed barriers, which is something I know I struggle with. Hearing from experts about personal growth strategies will definitely assist me in college and made this field trip worth attending."

The Massachusetts Early College "Take-Off Student Summit" served as a valuable platform for high school seniors to gain insights into college application techniques, finding the best-fit school, and transferring early college credits. The event aimed to empower students to overcome obstacles and chart a course for success in their future endeavors.
