Exploring Whittier Tech's Vocational Programs: A Mid-Year Update

Advanced Manufacturing
Sophomores and juniors in Advanced Manufacturing are pursuing certifications in Haas CNC lathe and mill operation. Industry visits to Little Enterprises and Evans Industries provide valuable insights into real-world applications of their skills.
Auto Tech
Whittier Auto Tech students are highly sought after in the industry, with recruitment from major companies. The well-equipped automotive shop, coupled with co-op opportunities, positions students for success in the automotive sector.
Business & Marketing
Business and Marketing students are actively involved in running the school store, learning QuickBooks, and honing their presentation skills. Co-op positions with various companies provide seniors with real-world experience and set them on a path toward successful careers.
Carpentry
Carpentry students have been involved in a myriad of in-house projects, ranging from constructing mock-up sheds for Electrical 10th grade to building props for an upcoming play. The diverse projects showcase the students' skills in carpentry, from constructing furniture to participating in community events like the Haverhill Parade.
Cosmetology
Cosmetology seniors, having taken clients in the school salon, showcase their skills in hairdressing and special effects makeup. Guest speakers and industry visits enhance their understanding of the cosmetology profession.
Culinary
The Culinary program has been actively involved in community service, with donations, catering events, and participation in vocational food shows. Students earning ServSafe Manager Certification highlight the program's commitment to industry standards and food safety.
Dental Assisting
Junior students in the Dental Assisting program are gearing up for their Radiation Health and Safety certification. Having shadowed at Associates in Dental Health in Bradford, they've gained valuable insights into the daily workings of a dental office. These students have also earned Basic Life Support certification and are set to acquire HIPAA and OSHA certifications in February. Notably, several sophomore students have passed their Dental Assisting National Board Infection Control Exam. The program's engagement extends beyond the classroom, with a field trip to Middlesex Community College and plans to attend the Yankee Dental Congress in Boston.
DVC (Design and Visual Communications)
DVC students are involved in a plethora of projects, from t-shirt design competitions to collaborations with local businesses. Their engagement with co-op employers and pursuit of Industry-Recognized Credentials demonstrate their dedication to excellence.
Early Education and Care
In Early Education and Care, juniors are currently undergoing certification in CPR and First Aid. Active community engagement includes a Book Buddies Program and hands-on experience at Moody School and Little Sprouts for juniors and sophomores, respectively. Seniors are on track to graduate with their Early Education certification from the Massachusetts Department of Education and Care.
Health Assisting
The Health Assisting program is abuzz with activity. Junior students are preparing for their CNA test, while Allied Health students earn Basic Life Support certification. Sophomore Health Assisting students are involved in a penpal program with Sarah’s Place Adult Day Health Center and regular visits to Baker Katz Nursing Home.
Hospitality
Hospitality juniors and seniors engage with local senior centers, catering events, and going on field trips to explore careers in the airline industry. The program fosters community involvement through holiday buffets and weekly SkillsUSA Framework Friday events.
HVACR
HVACR juniors are preparing for co-op and the 608 EPA test. In-house projects include service calls and maintenance tasks, showcasing the practical applications of their skills. The exposure to industry practices, such as gas training and product demonstrations, adds a real-world dimension to their education.
Marine Tech
Marine Service Technology sophomores have obtained hotworks certification, preparing them for shrink wrapping. This hands-on certification is crucial for their future careers in marine services.
Masonry

Medical Assisting
