WHITTIER TECH MATH DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES STUDENTS OF THE TERM FOR TERM 2

The Whittier Tech Math Department is pleased to share the Term 2 Students of the Term! Each student received a certificate “for exemplary effort and achievement in the area of Mathematics for Term 2 of the 2022-2023 school year.”

The certificates were signed by the student’s Math teacher and the Math Cluster Chair, Ms. McDonald. The goal of the Math Department is to showcase students’ outstanding math growth and achievement on a quarterly basis by selecting one student from every grade, once a term, to be recognized in their mathematics classroom.

Freshman Luis Guaman was nominated by Math Teacher Mr. McDormand.

  • “The level of understanding demonstrated by Luis this year in his Grade 9 math class has been exceptional. Considering that he has achieved at such a high level in the early stages of learning a new language is a testament to his hard work, desire, organization, and character. Each day, Luis quietly and consistently works on the daily classroom goals. When Luis grasps a difficult concept, he helps to tutor other students who are struggling with the concept. When he has questions, he practices his budding language skills by asking clarifying questions in English, a field where he is also making great strides. Grade 9 tackles some difficult concepts. Learning these concepts in a language that is new would be difficult for anyone. Through his hard work and positive attitude, Luis has excelled despite learning in his non-native language and due to his generosity, has carried other students along with him.”

Sophomore Julianna Muñiz was nominated by Math Teacher Ms. McDonald.

  • “Julianna is an excellent math student. She is incredibly organized, asks great questions, and on more than one occasion has caught many of my own mistakes. Although soft-spoken, she is confident in her math ability and her positive attitude is infectious. Julianna serves as a role model for others in class; she is always on task and works towards mastery on a regular basis. I enjoy having Julianna in class and I am sure that she will continue to succeed throughout her time here at Whittier Tech. She truly is an A+ student!”

Junior Paul Sadek was nominated by Math Teacher Mrs. Chronis.

  • “Paul is a model student and consistently shows appropriate classroom behavior. He uses his resources well and is an independent learner but advocates for himself and asks for help when necessary. He is always polite and attentive in class and is diligent and conscientious about his work. He is always on task and transitions from activities without prompting.”

Senior Atlin Paquette was nominated by Math Teacher Mr. Francois.

  • “Atlin has proven to be studious with his class time and always first to participate. He's been a good example for everyone else in the class. Considering he's surrounded by rowdy kids, he's more than deserving for staying focused and completing assignments competently.”
