Whittier Tech's Model UN Takes Home 3 Awards at UMass Lowell Crisis Conference

Whittier's Model UN team competed in a Crisis Conference at UMass Lowell on November 3rd and 4th. A Crisis Conference is a bit different than a typical Model UN Conference. Our students became characters in several different historical scenarios including the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Death of Stalin, the Death of Julius Caesar, Black Monday- The Market Crash of 1987, Return of Peron-The Argentine Revolution, and the Constitutional Convention.

Our students did an amazing job researching their characters before the conference and representing them throughout the conference. We were so pleased that they took home three awards.

Whittier Tech took home 3 awards including a Best Delegate (Connor Swales), Outstanding Delegate (Alyssa Wood), and an Honorable Mention (Angel Katzen). We're very proud of our delegation and how they represented their positions and Whittier Tech.

The best part was how excited the students were! They couldn't stop talking about how much fun they had on the bus ride home! This was our first conference of the year and the students did amazingly well! We anticipate that the team will do quite well in future competitions throughout the year.

United Nations is a class that seniors can take at Whittier. Two of the three award members are currently enrolled in the UN class. The Model UN Club meets regularly on Tuesday afternoons in CAD and is open to all grade levels. Mr. Robertson and I are pleased to report that this year we recruited members from each class! New members are always welcome!

Fun Fact: One of the Model UN Advisors, Scott Robertson, CAD Instructor was in fellow Model UN Advisor Jana Brown’s first United Nations class!
