WHITTIER TECH ENGLISH DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES STUDENTS OF THE TERM FOR TERM 1

The Whittier Tech English Department is pleased to share the Term 1 Students of the Term for Choice Reading! Each student received a certificate for their outstanding dedication to choice reading. The certificates were signed by the student’s English teacher. The goal of the English Department is to encourage and promote literacy, critical thinking, student confidence, and motivation in reading, writing, speaking, and listening through choice reading.

Freshman Dewelin Garcia Liranzo was nominated by English Teacher Mr. Cotrupi.

  • “Dewelin has consistently impressed me with how dedicated she is to reading and writing. She has organized her choice reading books with tabs and her reflections on the chapters she reads shows that she is thoroughly and genuinely invested in Choice Reading.”

Sophomore Shealeigh Sullivan was nominated by English Teacher Dr. Marino.

  • “Shealeigh is a voracious reader, constantly seeking new choice reading books, and always looking to engage teachers in conversations about books. Her favorite authors are Jodi Piccoult and Kristin Hannah, but she will read just about anything!

Junior Emily Collins was nominated by English Teacher Mr. Cunningham.

  • “Has anyone ever seen Emily without a book in her hand? I seriously doubt it. If she’s not reading, chances are she is scanning my bookshelves for her next read, chatting with someone about the novel she’s currently reading, or putting her book down because a math teacher told her to stop reading during class. Just recently I’ve seen her reading Steinbeck, Tolkien, and Amy Tam. At this rate, she will read them all.”

Senior Alexis Piskadlo was nominated by English Teacher Miss Devenney.

  • “Alexis has been a choice reading superstar since her freshman year. She comes to class with a different book every week, reading whenever she gets the chance, and she is always happy to talk about what she is reading with her classmates and teachers. Her favorite book series is the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi, and she loves fantasy, mystery/thrillers, romance, and true crime.”
