Whittier Tech Hosts Mock Crash for the Class of 2023

As we approach various senior celebrations, Whittier Tech put on their annual Mock Crash earlier today for the Class of 2023.

The Mock Crash Event is a realistic reenactment of a car crash scenario organized by WT School Resource Officer Ryan Connolly from the Haverhill Police Department. By emphasizing the risks of distracted driving, drunk driving, and other frequent accident causes, the event aims to leave a lasting impression on students. The story begins with student actors who pretend to be a group of teens driving drunk and fast, then there is an ear-splitting crash, fatal injuries, shock, and disbelief. Then, with lights flashing and sirens blaring, the Haverhill Fire and Police Departments arrive on the scene to get to work administering field sobriety tests to the driver and rescuing those still alive from the wrecked car in the school parking lot.  A hearse from Farmer and Sons Funeral Home quietly approaches to remove the dead.

Students then moved to the auditorium where Haverhill Police Officer Pearl and Officer Phair shared the rules of the road and OUI laws and penalties for both alcohol and drugs. They also highlight the story of Karen Lapierre. She was a Haverhill resident who cared for many foster children, was killed by a drunk driver in 2011.

This event emphasizes the serious effects of the collision on those involved, illustrating possible outcomes like injuries, fatalities, and legal repercussions. The goal is to instill a profound understanding of the risks involved in engaging in risky driving behaviors.

Seniors who volunteered to be the actors were: Jaidyn Craig, Maddy Dawkins, Taylor Leblanc, Ethan Murphy, and Tori Wilson, all from Haverhill. Their special effects makeup was done by a WT Graduate of the Class of 2020, Lexi Clark. She was assisted by current cosmetology junior Alivia Eaton.

Officer Connolly expressed his gratitude, "Special thank you to Rich Porcelli for his assistance with audio and sound, One Ten Towing,  Haverhill Police Department, Haverhill Fire Department, Trinity Ambulance, and Farmer and Sons Funeral Home for their collaboration, and Superintendent Lynch and WT staff for supporting this presentation."

*As we embark on these celebrations, we encourage everyone to prioritize safety and make good choices. Let us come together as a community to ensure that our students have a memorable and safe experience during this exciting time. There is so much to celebrate for the Class of 2023!*
