Whittier Tech English Department Announces Students of the Term for Term 2

The Whittier Tech English Department is pleased to share the Term 2 Students of the Term for Choice Reading! Each student received a certificate for their outstanding dedication to choice reading. The certificates were signed by the student’s English teacher. The goal of the English Department is to encourage and promote literacy, critical thinking, student confidence, and motivation in reading, writing, speaking, and listening through choice reading.

Grade 9 student Cameron Stone, from Newburyport, was nominated by English Teacher Mrs. Ruggelo.

  • “Cameron has shown tremendous growth as a reader this school year! He takes choice reading time seriously, displaying a true interest in a novel.”

Grade 10 student Ali Maliszewski, from Amesbury, was nominated by English Teacher Mr. Antaya.

  • “Ali has been an avid reader since the beginning of the year. She recently completed a choice reading project on Her Perfect Crime by Elle Gray. Her project was a newspaper that included a progression of stories that not only described important plot points from the novel but also showed a deep understanding of Gray’s characterization of the protagonist.”

Grade 11 student Mason Fourtziales, from Haverhill, was nominated by English Teacher Ms. Kallini.

  • “Mason is extremely passionate about choice reading. He looks forward to choice reading every day and I often have to ask him several times to put his book away when the timer is up! Mason loves sharing about new books he has found or his trips to the bookstore. It is inspiring to see him read every day!”

Grade 12 student Scott Mccullough, from Haverhill, was nominated by English Teacher Ms. Kallini.

  • “Scott read "The Glass Castle" during our unit on Memoirs and has gone above and beyond in classroom discussions and has provided wonderful analysis and insight to his peers. He took independent reading the book very seriously and kept excellent notes!”
