Whittier Tech Math Department Announces Students Of The Term For Term 2

The Whittier Tech Math Department is pleased to share the Term 2 Students of the Term! Each student received a certificate “for exemplary effort and achievement in the area of Mathematics for Term 1 of the 2023-2024 school year.” The certificates were signed by the student’s Math teacher and the Math Cluster Chair, Ms. McDonald. The goal of the Math Department is to showcase students’ outstanding math growth and achievement on a quarterly basis by selecting one student from every grade, once a term, to be recognized in their mathematics classroom.

Freshman Miseal Paulino was nominated by Math Teacher Ms. Lentendre.

  • “Miseal is a dedicated and hardworking 9th grade math student. He is a true role model for his peers. He always gives 100% while in class, and does not hesitate to ask for help. Miseal comes to class prepared daily. He is focused and on task during class and does not distract his peers. He has respect for his classmates as well as his teachers, takes pride in his work, and has shown lots of improvement since the start of the school year.”

Sophomore Rocco Figliola was nominated by Math Teacher Ms. McDonald.

  • “Rocco is a conscientious student. During Term 2, he retook every assessment. He would take the time to learn from his previous mistakes, and always improved his grade. Rocco asks great questions in class and he is kind to other students. His hard work is evident in his Term 2 grade and his midyear grade. Rocco is an excellent math student and a true pleasure to have in class.”

Junior Hayden Holleran was nominated by Math Teacher Mrs. Kastrinelis.

  • “I first noted the amazing work ethic of Hayden Holleran about half way through Term 1. Hayden is in my largest CP1 Algebra 3 class. The total student count of 27 students is above the recommended class size and so I work diligently to keep track of the students in this very large class. Hayden consistently exceeds expectations on classwork, quizzes and employability/career readiness skills. Hayden is always prepared for class and always turns in all assignments on a timely basis. This incredibly large class has a wonderful "personality" and Hayden is part of that personality, which makes this class one of my favorite classes this year. As I got to know Hayden a little better, I looked at their historical grades and noted that Hayden consistently maintains high grades in mathematics as well as their other courses and also in their Design and Visual Communications shop. I truly believe that Hayden's quiet presence and ernest approach to school work is a model that other students do note. I approached Hayden recently about moving up to an honors level math class next year and their initial reaction was very modest and unassuming. I hope that being recognized as the Math Student of Term 2 will encourage Hayden to reach higher in their mathematics education just to see where it takes them!”

Senior Anthony Ferullo was nominated by Math Teacher Mr. Madden.

  • “Anthony is a positive and active participant in Economic Principles and Statistics. He routinely engages in class conversations about the topics covered and adds a unique perspective. Anthony is always on top of his work and extremely respectful to his peers and teachers. He acts as a role model for the students around him. We are happy to know Anthony and have him in our class!”
