Whittier Tech Math Department Announces Students of the Term for Term 3

The Whittier Tech Math Department is pleased to share the Term 3 Students of the Term! Each student received a certificate “for exemplary effort and achievement in the area of Mathematics for Term 3 of the 2023-2024 school year.” The certificates were signed by the student’s Math teacher and the Math Cluster Chair, Ms. McDonald. The goal of the Math Department is to showcase students’ outstanding math growth and achievement on a quarterly basis by selecting one student from every grade, once a term, to be recognized in their mathematics classroom.

Freshman Cadence Townsend was nominated by Math Teacher Mrs. Munroe.

  • “Cadence has a 100 average for Q3 in Honors Algebra1/Geometry! Cadence is an excellent mathematician and a good role model for her peers. She has started to become more comfortable in class and is confident working collaboratively with others. She challenges herself to answer challenging and bonus questions and although she does not make mistakes often, she learns from them when she does. Cadence is a pleasure to have in class this year!”

Sophomore Gianna Rivera Pena was nominated by Math Teacher Mr. Tashjian.

  • “I am nominating Gianna for student of the term for term three. Gianna comes to class everyday with a positive attitude and ready to work. She is one of the most diligent and hard working students that I have this school year. Through her hard work, she has improved her grade every term and has grown as a math student. Along with being an excellent student in class, she actively participates in extra- curricular activities at Whittier. She is a member of the fall and winter cheer team and can be found at the Poets Inn happily serving customers. Congratulations Gianna! Keep up the great work!.”

Junior Sorelle Hamilton was nominated by Math Teachers Mrs. Chronis and Mrs. Dolan.

  • “Sorelle works extremely hard to make sure that she not only can perform a procedure required for class, but that she understands WHY she is doing the procedure. She consistently asks thoughtful questions that highlight her desire to make sure that she understands the material in class. Sorelle is not afraid to take risks and ask questions, and her hard work shows. She is polite and works well with peers and is a pleasure to have in class. She also loves to write in a big crayola marker and it makes me smile when I look at her neat work written in big magic marker.”

Senior Aidan Clarke was nominated by Math Teacher Mr. Valaskatgis.

  • “For Term 3 Math Student of the month, I nominate Aidan Clarke for Discrete Math. Since Day 1, Aidan has come to class prepared, engaged, and brings his best effort everyday. Many times he has started class conversations about real life examples and "What ifs" that often spark full class discussions to further our understanding of financial literacy. He has a positive, upbeat attitude. He's also a pretty good math student and is carrying a 98 average for the year! We wish him the best in his future endeavors as an electrician!”
