WHITTIER TECH ENGLISH DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES STUDENTS OF THE TERM FOR TERM 3

The Whittier Tech English Department is pleased to share the Term 3 Students of the Term for Choice Reading! Each student received a certificate for their outstanding dedication to choice reading. The certificates were signed by the student’s English teacher. The goal of the English Department is to encourage and promote literacy, critical thinking, student confidence, and motivation in reading, writing, speaking, and listening through choice reading.

Grade 9 student Marco Moscardini, from Haverhill, was nominated by English Teacher Ms. Bragg.

  • “Marco Moscardini is an inquisitive 9th grader whose passion for books is only second to his love for learning. His eclectic taste in literature ranges from the classics, such as Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment to Douglas Adams’ Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Marco reads to learn more about life and challenges himself with books that address social issues, both past and present. He shares his love for discovering new words with his classmates, which has led to fascinating classroom discussions.”

Grade 10 student Maddie Gouthier, from Amesbury, was nominated by English Teacher Ms. Staunton.

  • “She is a very active and thoughtful reader. Every morning she comes to class, finds her seat, and begins reading her novel. She has worked her way through many novels this year and creates excellent choice reading projects.”

Grade 11 student EmmaDawn McCusker, from Haverhill, was nominated by English Teacher Ms. St. Pierre.

  • “EmmaDawn McCusker is not only an avid reader, but a person whose character shows the empathy and compassion that can be gained through the exposure of stories and books. Books have the power to transform lives, to teach us different perspectives, and to help us appreciate the many facets of life. It is evident that with each story EmmaDawn reads, her impeccable character continues to grow. Thank you, EmmaDawn, for being a reading role model!”

Grade 12 student Samuel DeMello, from Amesbury, was nominated by English Teacher Ms. Devenney.

  • “Sam is an avid reader who thoroughly exemplifies the spirit of choice reading. He has read many books this year during our designated class time and often has to be reminded to put his book away. I think he would happily sit and read all of class instead of doing the other assigned work! Sam particularly likes fantasy and dystopian books; his favorites are The Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire, and The Wheel of Time.”
