WHITTIER TECH MATH DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES STUDENTS OF THE TERM FOR TERM 1

The Whittier Tech Math Department is pleased to share the Term 1 Students of the Term! Each student received a certificate “for exemplary effort and achievement in the area of Mathematics for Term 1 of the 2023-2024 school year.” The certificates were signed by the student’s Math teacher and the Math Cluster Chair, Ms. McDonald. The goal of the Math Department is to showcase students’ outstanding math growth and achievement on a quarterly basis by selecting one student from every grade, once a term, to be recognized in their mathematics classroom.

Freshman James Martin was nominated by Math Teacher Mr. Kelly.

  • “I am nominating James Martin for Student of the Quarter for several reasons. James has a high level of self-awareness of both his strengths and weaknesses. He takes a growth mindset approach to learning and shows a great deal of resilience. He has made a commitment to stay after school for extra help on a regular basis. This has helped him improve his math skills and find greater success in the classroom. Further, James has become someone who is confident enough to help other students who have come for extra help. Keep up the great work James!”

Sophomore Joshua Lasher was nominated by Math Teacher Ms. Simmons.

  • “I nominate Josh Lasher for Student of the Term. Josh has worked incredibly hard this term and currently has an A+ in math. He asks thoughtful questions during class and attends extra help sessions when he is struggling with the work. He constantly is on task and he works well with his peers on assignments during class. When Josh and his work partner disagree on an answer I can overhear thoughtful debates on how they reached their answer. These attributes are what makes him such a strong student in math.”

Junior Hailey Senneville was nominated by Math Teacher Mr. Hayes.

  • “Hailey is a wonderful student in my Pre-Calculus class this year. She is ready to learn from the moment that class begins. She asks meaningful questions during lessons and performs exceptionally well on assessments. Hailey is also very conscientious about make-up work when she misses a class. Hailey has taken quizzes early and made-up tests within 24 hours of missing the assessment demonstrating her exemplary work ethic and sense of responsibility.”

Senior Nathaniel Shramko was nominated by Math Teachers Ms. Teixeira and Mrs. Penny.

  • “Nate has been an absolute pleasure through the first quarter in Pre Engineering. He comes to class every day with so much energy. Nate is passionate about engineering and his future. I love to hear about his college tours and how he is going to apply what he learns here at Whittier to his future.”
